AeroWorks 50cc Yak 55

Postby cherrybomb48 » Mon Oct 12, 2015 2:20 pm

Alright! I finally got a chance to post it on this site!

Setup:

DLE 61 with stock muffler
AR9110 Powersafe RX
Power HD Storm 3's for the surfaces
Power HD Coreless D15 HV for throttle
2x Pulse 2550 mAh 7.4v lipos
Tech Aero IBEC
24oz Extreme Flight tank
Blue Miracle Spinner
24x10 carbon prop
1 1/2" arms on ail, elev. 4" on rudder

So this plane is really nice! Initial inspection of the airframe come out mostly good. Seem someone was rough with the box during shipping and broke a stringer along the bottom of the fuselage. A couple minutes of epoxy and heat gun got it fixed right up.

When I started the build I didn't have all my equipment so I put off the wings and stabs for a while. Straight to the fuselage I went! Did the rudder install just like the manual said and it seems to be holding fine. Got plenty of travel in both directions.

I also installed the landing gear and wheel pants.

And before I left for the weekend I mounted the engine.

This past weekend I was able to make it home and do a good bit more on the Yak.
All my gear showed up too.

First thing I did was to put some Viton line in the tank. Its not that I don't trust the included blue line, but I bought the Viton so I don't have to trust the blue line! :D

First up was the Pull-Pull! I did my best to get perfect geometry in my lines, but it didn't work out :( . No biggie
It actually seems to be my best setup yet. The included hardware is nice and set right into place.

These Power HD's seem to be decent servos. I picked them up a good price when I was flying for Redwing RC alittle over a year ago. I haven't run the on 7.4v yet though.

Throttle time!

So on this Yak, I decided to take my time and try to put the servo in the perfect location so I don't have to destroy the firewall to get the linage through. I usually rush and wind up messing up the placement.
However, this time it went very smooth! Placed the servo at a good spot on the wall and drilled my hole perfectly. :D

I put a few servo screws into the throttle mount just in case the epoxy decides to break loose.

I really like the custom fitted throttle arm too!

Setting the choke rod was uneventful

And mounted the ignition on the right side of the firewall.

Fuel system install:
First up was cutting the fuel dot hole. These fuel dots included with the airframe are nice!
IMG_0854.JPG

My tygon just so happens to be the right size that makes the fuel cap fit snuggly when retracted.
IMG_0857.JPG

I dropped my tank in there and used Velcro straps to keep it in place.

I also mounted my IBEC and vent hole at the bottom of the plane. I just don't have pictures for them yet. :o

Next up was cutting the cowl. This cowl is extremely nice! Very well painted! I didn't want to cut it lol
I opened some vent space on the bottom of the scoop. I will see if I need to open more up later.
